Kristofferson Home | Bio | Kris' Notes on the Current CDs |
Press | Buy a CD
n times of political turmoil and uncertainty, many artists just shut their
mouths and entertain. That's never been Kristofferson's style. He's a
humanist and an intimate performer who doesn't give a damn whether people
agree with him or not, nor does he presume he's got all the answers.
Repossessed, Kris' 11th solo album, was released in 1986 during a period of
political unrest as the world feared another Vietnam in El Salvador.
Kristofferson explored that concern in "What About Me," while such songs as
"Shipwrecked in the Eighties," "They Killed Him," and "Anthem '84" reflected
on many facets of politics and war. This is the first time that
Repossessed is available on CD.
The opening song of Third World Warrior, "The Eagle and the Bear," closed
with the lines, "And I'll say until the day we free Mandela/All the world
will be in chains," while the album's final song, "Sandinista," declared
support for the Nicaraguan rebels. On February 12, 1990, Mandela was
released, and on February 26, Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega conceded
defeat in the Nicaraguan election. Third World Warrior was launched in the
course of these significant historical events.
aving achieved remarkable success as a songwriter,
with many of his songs having been
chart-topping hits (recorded by 450+ artists), Kris Kristofferson enjoys a career as a performer, songwriter, and
successful film actor. Broken Freedom Song (Live From San Francisco) features 15 songs recorded live at
The Gershwin Theater at San Francisco State July 2002. Accompanied by Stephen Bruton (guitar) and
Keith Carper (bass), many of these tunes are previously unreleased.
